ENGLISH TRANSLATION BELOW:

Dubbing specialist, Sheylla Gonçalves, competed in the category “Outstanding Body Of Work – Foreign Language – Best Voiceover”

The term “dubbing” comes from the French “doublage” which means duplication of speech, the term, even for being gringo, is already in the Portuguese dictionary, just as happened with the word “stress” derived from “stress”. The first sound films appeared in 1925, but the cinema began to “dub” only in 1927 with the film “The Jazz Singer” that included some speeches, but the first fully dubbed film was “Lights of New York”, released in 1929. The dubbing feature allowed the improvement of the sound quality of the films, since the filming equipment was extremely noisy, which did not always allow a good capture of the sound. It was also a good solution for external outlets in adverse conditions. Some countries do not have the custom of dubbing for cinema, leaving the dubbing only for cartoons, in which it does not need a detailed study of the speech of the personages, unlike films, for example.

Brazilian talent:

Conquering admirers or not, the popularity of dubbing resulted in the creation of the “Voice Arts® Awards” by the Society of Voice Arts & Sciences (SOVAS) in the USA. The ceremony is in its 5th edition and this year will award the best talents of 2018, including the Rio Sheylla Gonçalves. Last year, she had participated in the category “OUTSTANDING CASTING”, in the dubbing of Monica’s Class for the Spanish language, in the series “Mônica and his friends.” She was the first Brazilian to be nominated for the award, to be held at Warner Bros Studios in Burbank (CA) on Sunday, November 18), with a red carpet.

Sheylla carries in the professional luggage the Teatro Tablado (RJ), graduation in Performing Arts with Degree in Artistic Education (SP) and the House & Company of Arts Avancini. In 2010, she moved to the US to improve her English, but the opportunities made her decide to stay in the country, where she discovered the fascination for production, direction and dubbing.

In 2018, Sheylla was nominated in the category “Outstanding Body Of Work – Foreign Language – Best Voiceover”, as well as professionals Rona Fletcher, Ruben Raffo, Memo Sauceda and Sylvia Villagran.
